Man Who Tried To Rob Woman At Atlantic City Intersection Pleads Guilty, Prosecutors Say

An Atlantic City man admitted to jumping into a woman's car at an intersection and trying to rob her, authorities said.

Eugene Shirk, 33, pleaded guilty on Friday, Nov. 1 to second-degree attempted robbery, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said in a news release. 

Atlantic City police responded to the intersection of South Carolina and Adriatic avenues at around 2 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 13, 2023. A woman flagged down officers and pointed out Shirk at the scene.

The victim said Shirk got into her car while it was stopped and demanded all of her money. She turned off the car, escaped without injury, and Shirk was arrested at the scene.

Shirk's plea deal called for a six-year state prison sentence. He would have to serve a little more than five years before being eligible for parole under the No Early Release Act.

Sentencing was scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025.
